Atomikite 2012 in Progreso (Mexico)
On the 2nd and 3rd of June it took place another important kite tournament in Mexico, ATOMIKITE 2012 at the beaches of Progreso, the most important town in the Yucatan coastal, only 30 minutes away from the beautiful city of Merida.
Progreso, a port founded in 1871 in response to the needs of henequén (sisal fiber) Yucatec producers to send their goods to the rest of the world, has become today an important commercial port, a cruise tourism port with a deck of more than 6 km long and one of the best kite surfing spots in Mexico because of his constant and strong winds.
Progreso’s beaches are clean and emerald-green water, with the exception of the days when “El norte” wind comes in winter, a cold front which stirred a little the sea. Its shallow waters are excellent for swimming and practice water sports.
The Atomikite 2012 had the participation of local competitors and visitors who showed their freestyle skills.
The winner was Anthar Racca (Ikarus), 11-year-old boy, who had been the second in the Wind Festival of Bucerias just a month ago. We talk about him in our post “The wind festival in Mexico” and praise his awesome qualities as a kitesurf rider.
We show you some great pictures of the event by Kitesurf Vacation. Enjoy the great atmosphere and fantastic stunts of riders.
